Spain as the Orient: Building the Spanish Musical Identity in the Nineteenth Century

Rafael Lamas, professor of Spanish Literature at Fordham University at Lincoln Center of New York

Rafael Lamas is professor of Spanish Literature at Fordham University at Lincoln Center of New York. He is the author of the books 'Música e Identidad' (Alianza Editorial, 2008), and 'Escuchar e Interpretar' (Alianza Editorial, 2014). His articles appeared in journals such as Hispanic Review, Arizona Journal of Hispanic Cultural Studies, Quimera, Debats, and Genre. He is also an orchestra conductor and a concert pianist, and has performed throughout Europe and the United States in venues such as New York's Carnegie Hall and Symphony Space, Vienna's Konzerthaus, and Granada's Auditorio Manuel de Falla. He was awarded the 2006-2007 Rome Prize.
